Year-End and Commencement 2019

The end of the school year is an exciting time to celebrate the successful completion of academic work and new adventures on the horizon. The entire Providence community enjoys this time of recognizing and honoring our seniors in particular. We applaud their growth and accomplishments as Providence graduates and send them off to colleges and universities across the country with prayers for God’s blessing and with our best wishes for continued success.

Senior Project Finalists Presentations

Wednesday, May 15, 1:45 pm—2:55 pm
Christ Presbyterian Church, corner of Victoria and Anacapa

The top three senior projects are formally presented to the school community and special guests. Prizes are awarded. This also is a time for celebrating all the seniors’ efforts on their projects by announcing their topics and theses. All interested are invited to attend.

Providence Awards Night

Santa Barbara Community Church, 1002 Cieneguitas Road

A ceremony recognizing top academic and athletic performances and other achievements of the school year. This event is for all students, grades 7-12, and their families. Light refreshments will be served following the program.

Lower School Talent Show

Bring your own chairs and picnic dinners and enjoy a fun variety of acts featuring Providence K–6 students:  jugglers, joke tellers, singers, bands, tap dancers, karate demos, and more!

Senior Dinner

Saturday, June 1

Information on a Senior Class dinner, planned and hosted by parents, is emailed to senior families. Please contact LoriAnn Banez, Karen Yonally, or Angie West with any questions.

Senior Trip

June 2–4

This trip is a special time for seniors to enjoy their meaningful friendships with classmates, to reflect on their Providence experience, and to create new memories in Big Bear, California.

Final Exams (7 – 11)

June 4–6

End-of-term examinations for grades 7-11. School dismisses at 12:15 pm for middle school and 12:30 pm for high school on these minimum days.

Sixth-Grade Baccalaureate

Tuesday, June 4, 7 pm – 9 pm
Free Methodist Church of Santa Barbara, 1435 Cliff Drive

An evening individually honoring sixth graders as they complete the lower school and move on to middle school. Every student makes a speech and parents are given an opportunity to honor and bless their child while reflecting on the significant growth since preschool or early elementary days. Details forthcoming.

Lower School Moving Up & Sixth-Grade Recognition Ceremony

A ceremony recognizing the growth of every lower school student and promoting him or her to the next level. This event is for all lower school students (K-6) and their families. Light refreshments will be served following the program.

Commencement Rehearsal

Mandatory commencement rehearsal for all seniors.

Eighth-Grade Recognition Ceremony

Wednesday, June 5, 7 pm – 9 pm
Free Methodist Church of Santa Barbara, 1435 Cliff Drive

A ceremony recognizing eighth graders as they complete the middle school and move on to high school. This event is for all eighth-grade students and their families. Light refreshments will be served following the program.

Baccalaureate Service

Thursday, June 6, 6 pm – 7 pm
Providence San Roque Campus Quad, 3225 Calle Pinon

A worship service planned and led by the seniors, reflecting on their spiritual growth while at Providence. The service will take place outdoors; dress accordingly.

Senior Breakfast and Exit Interviews

Friday, June 7, 9 am – 11 am
Providence Canon Perdido campus

A time for the seniors to formally and candidly share with faculty and staff their thoughts and observations about their time at Providence.

End-of-Year BBQ & Yearbook Signing

Friday, June 7, 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Providence Canon Perdido campus

A BBQ lunch and time to socialize and sign yearbooks. This event is for all middle school and high school students, and graduating seniors. The BBQ is free for students who purchased a yearbook and costs $5 for those who did not purchase a yearbook. (Please submit fee to the School Office.)

COMMENCEMENT

First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara, 21 East Constance Avenue

All are welcome to attend this joyful, worshipful celebration of the members of our Senior Class as they receive their diplomas and commence the next stage of their educations.

All former Board members of Providence, Providence Hall, Santa Barbara Christian School, and El Montecito School are invited to attend and participate in the opening procession. Board emeriti will be given a special stole to wear and seating will be reserved for you and your family. Please RSVP to Caroline Corazza, Director of Development, at ccorazza@providencesb.org.

All alumni of Providence, Providence Hall, Santa Barbara Christian School, and El Montecito School are invited to attend and to sit together in a reserved section. Please RSVP to Emilee Hurlbert, Alumni Coordinator, at ehurlbert@providencesb.org.

Tickets are not required. Doors will open at 3:30 pm for seniors’  families for priority seating. All others may enter at 3:40 pm. Please be mindful to arrive and park in time to be in your seat before the procession begins at 4 pm. 

Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the church.

A reception will follow the ceremony in the Christian Fellowship Center.

All seniors, flag bearers, and other participants in the commencement ceremony, including Chorale singers, should be at First Presbyterian Church by 3 pm.

A professional photographer will take at least one photo of each graduate as they receive their diploma. He or she will be available to photograph family groups after the ceremony.
