Providence Students Four for Four in Scholarship Foundation Art Competition

January 30, 2019 by Elaine Rottman

Trevor English, Gabriel Farhadian, Eva Kilpper, and Jenna Peterson, all members of the Class of 2019, recently were honored by the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara and awarded $2500 college scholarships for their submissions to the Scholarship Foundation’s 2019 Art Scholarship Competition. Their artwork was on display at the Santa Barbara Art Museum for the January 24 awards ceremony and a few days following.

Providence had excellent representation, with four winners among 24 student artists from Santa Barbara county, including schools with much larger enrollments.

James Daly, Providence middle and high school art teacher, proudly said “Our students were awesome. Judges chose the winners by looking at anonymous portfolios, so our students’ work really did stand on its own.”

Students from all over southern Santa Barbara county applied to be considered for the scholarship awards; of those that applied, 79 were invited to submit art portfolios to be considered for the 24 available scholarships. All four Providence students who were invited to submit their portfolios were awarded scholarships: a 100% achievement rate!

Providence is grateful to the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara for their support of budding artists and their commitment to helping them further their educations.
