Boys & Girls Club Presents Providence with “Community Support” Award

February 22, 2019 by Elaine Rottman

On behalf of Providence School students, parents, and faculty, Scott Rockney, middle and high school principal and associate head of school, accepted the “Community Support” award from the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara at an awards dinner on February 21.

The Club, with whom Providence shares the Canon Perdido campus, recognized Providence for supplying Christmas gifts for children though the “Giving Tree” program. The Providence community donated 70 gifts, which were among the 359 distributed at the Club’s annual Breakfast with Santa. Providence families also donated gift cards and baked goods as a surprise for the 20 staff members to honor all of the hard work they put in throughout the year.

Susan Isaac, Providence’s director of spiritual life, spearheaded the collection on the Providence campuses. Isaac expressed her thanks “to all the students, families, and faculty members who gave so generously to bless our neighbors at the Boys and Girls Club.” In a thank you message, she wrote, “While we know toys are not the reason for the season, we also know that any opportunity to grow in relationship with our neighbors is an opportunity to be the Gospel presence in people’s lives—and who knows where those relationships may lead?”
