Evan Covell has been hired to serve as athletic director at Providence, effective July 1. He fills the position vacated by Steve Stokes, who is moving  out of the area.

Coach Covell has already been deeply involved in the Providence community for the past four years, having trained the track and field and cross-country teams during that time. He will continue to coach those teams and will also direct all Providence athletics programs.

A graduate of Westmont College with a degree in English, he has also been on staff with FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) for the past two years. He is currently working on a master’s degree in sports administration.

In the upcoming year, under Evan Covell’s leadership, Providence will offer CIF teams for boys basketball, boys lacrosse (new!), boys golf, boys volleyball, girls basketball, girls beach volleyball, girls tennis, girls swimming, and coed cross-country and track and field.

Coach Covell says, “I am thrilled to be joining the Providence community as athletic director. In my four years coaching at Providence, I have come to love the faculty, students, and families and now I am excited to serve this community full time.”

He is wholeheartedly committed to the power of athletics to build character and instill strong Christian values in athletes and coaches. “The coach-athlete relationship is truly important as coaches have an incredible influence on the maturing process of student-athletes,” he says. “And the student-athletes have a tremendous ability to serve their teams and coaches as they all strive towards a common goal. Providence is a wonderfully unique community that has welcomed me as a coach and I am ready to step in and serve. Go, Patriots!”
