ATHLETICS

We work hard. We play hard. And we play to win.

“Small is a big experience” at Providence. Every student has the opportunity to grow in athletic skill, experience high-level competition, and benefit from the camaraderie that comes with school sports. Our expert coaches challenge athletes who are at the top of their game and engage athletes who are new to the sport. Approximately 80% of Upper School students play a competitive sport.

A Providence Patriot is strong and courageous. Our coaches and athletes commit to integrity, service, and excellence.

The Patriot athletic program shapes players into people of character. Sports are a vehicle through which our coaches strive to teach important life skills, including leadership, teamwork, responsibility, service, and perseverance. Athletes gain more than specific athletic skills; they take with them a college-preparatory education, respect for hard work, deeper self-awareness, the ability to play at the next level of athletic competition, and the confidence to positively impact their next community.

Every year, Providence athletes sign with college programs, including men’s soccer at the University of Chicago, women’s basketball at Whitworth College and Westmont, track and field at Cal Lutheran and Westmont, and more.

Providence coaches are chosen for their knowledge, experience, and expertise in their sport. More importantly, Providence coaches desire to disciple young people and challenge them to grow in their relationship with Christ. Our coaches look for “teachable moments” and consistently conduct team devotions and prayer time.

LOWER SCHOOL ATHLETICS | GRADES 4–6

Most of all, Lower School athletics are an opportunity to have fun while trying out a variety of athletic activities. Boys and girls will learn about competition, good sportsmanship, and training while exploring the world of organized youth sports.

After-school sports typically include volleyball, basketball, and flag football for boys and girls.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS | GRADES 7–8

The purpose of the Middle School athletics program is to form an understanding of competition and good sportsmanship while developing skills in preparation for success in future competitive athletic endeavors. Middle School is a time to try out a variety of sports to see what best fits an individual student-athlete’s interests and abilities.

After-school sports include cross country running, volleyball, and basketball for boys and girls.

UPPER SCHOOL ATHLETICS | GRADES 9–12

Providence’s competitive CIF high school athletic program is committed to encouraging excellence on the court or field and in life. Student-athletes strive to represent their Creator and their school with honor and integrity.

Providence is a member of the Tri-County Athletic Association (TCAA), playing independent schools of similar size.

The athletic department frequently adds sports with sufficient interest. Students who want to compete in a particular sport are encouraged to speak to the athletic director about starting a team.
